Course Description:
The purpose of this course is an introduction to the evaluation and restoration of damaged structures with respect to the Florida Existing Building Code (FEBC). This course will acquaint the students with the implications of the new Florida Existing Building Code on the ability of an owner to reconstruct after a loss. Prior to the adoption of this code we had chapter 34 of the Florida Building Code, which was based on cost and little else. What we have now is a code based on the type of work proposed and the scope of the project. This book was developed with the idea in mind that the code should not work a greater a hardship on an owner than the event which necessitated the repair, and that storms should not be the vehicle by which structures are upgraded.
